Fathom alternative hosted in France
Fathom Analytics and Quiet Metrics start from the same refusal: measure an audience without tracking anyone, with a dashboard you can read without training. Two differences separate them, and one of the two often decides on its own.
Everything written here about Fathom comes from its own published pages. They are dated and linked at the bottom. We can vouch for the state of our product, not theirs.
What Fathom does well
A one-line install. Their site puts it this way: "a single line of code that works with any website, CMS or framework". It is true, and it is pleasant.
European processing for European data. Their documentation describes the mechanism precisely: for a visitor from the European Union, their CDN sends the pageview to their European servers, and the IP address, personal data under the GDPR, is stripped from the request inside the EU.
A well-kept product. The interface is clean and the commitment to restraint is the same as ours.

The third row matters most, and it deserves to be read exactly. Fathom hides nothing: their page on EU isolation states that the anonymous data is then stored on their main US servers, for fast and easy retrieval on their customers' dashboards. The IP address is indeed stripped in Europe, before that.
What should you conclude? It depends entirely on your own case. If your assessment concerns personal data, their design answers it: the personal identifier does not leave the Union. If your requirements or your client demand that nothing, not even anonymised data, be stored outside the European Union, then the answer is no, and it is better to know that before signing.
With us the question does not arise: measurement data is hosted in France by a single processor, OVH SAS, and is never transferred outside the European Union.
When to stay with Fathom
If your site is not built in PHP. Their single line works everywhere. Our server packages are PHP, Laravel and Symfony, and that is where most of our value sits.
If US storage is not a problem in your context. That is true of many projects, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.
If you manage a large number of sites. Their pricing is designed for that; look at their own page, which is authoritative, not our summary.
When to look at us
If an audit asks you where the data is stored. The answer "in France, with no transfer outside the EU" fits on one line and needs no explanation of a mechanism.
If you are losing traffic to blockers. A script loaded by the browser can be blocked by the browser. Sending the hit from the server removes the problem at the root.
If you already work in PHP. Three lines in a Laravel service, and measurement leaves from your own application.
